SBIR Phase 0 Program

The HSC Next SBIR Phase 0 Program helps connect innovative Tarrant County entrepreneurs to nondilutive funding through America’s Seed Fund.

About

In December 2022, HSC Next received a $2M grant from Tarrant County to develop an SBIR Phase 0 Program to make it easier for innovative small businesses in Tarrant County to apply for nondilutive funding through America\’s Seed Fund. Each year, the Federal Government provides approximately $3B in nondilutive funding for small businesses; Phase I is up to $295K per award and Phase II is up to $1.9M per award. The HSC Next SBIR Phase 0 Program enrolls a maximum of 10 qualified companies into a monthly cohort on a rolling basis. The cohort meets weekly over a month, where participants receive an overview of America\’s Seed Fund including: how to register for government websites, funding agency philosophies, the do\’s and don\’ts of preparing an SBIR proposal, budget preparation, and feedback based on reviewer responses. Participants have access to SBIR experts who will help companies fine-tune their proposals. Companies may also receive a commercialization report to assist in preparing the commercialization portion of their SBIR proposal. Access to these services typically cost $5K-$15K, but thanks to the Tarrant County grant, these services are available to participants at no charge. To participate in the SBIR Phase 0 Program, companies must be located in Tarrant County, have fewer than 500 employees, be engaged in R&D with the potential for commercialization.
