Business Equity Week 2021: Equity Resources in Fort Worth

Christina Brooks, City of Fort Worth Director of Diversity and Inclusion will introduce the new Business Equity division which supports minority and women-owned business enterprises and works to close racial and gender gaps in City contracting and procurement.
Cheryl Jones, City of Fort Worth Business Equity Project Coordinator, will outline the many resources and tools provided for minority- and women-owned business in Fort Worth.
The Department of Diversity and Inclusion consists of work in 3 divisions—Business Equity, Civil Rights Enforcement, and Municipal Equity. As the City of Fort Worth’s first Chief Equity Officer and Director of Diversity and Inclusion Department, Christina Brooks is responsible for the enforcement of the City’s Non-Discrimination Ordinance for Fair Housing, Fair Employment, Public Accommodations, ADA and Title VI and the Business Equity Ordinance for equitable access in City contracting and procurement and capacity building of underrepresented business firms as defined by the City’s most recent Disparity Study for contracting and procurement.
Cheryl Jones began her career in banking over 25 years ago and was employed with several large banking institutions such as Wachovia Bank, Chase Bank and Compass Bank. As the Small Business Specialist in the City of Fort Worth’s Economic Development Department, Cheryl helped identify business resources for small businesses and assisted with training, programming, outreach and other events. As the liaison for everything small business which included partner collaborations, client & community engagement, event coordination and overall navigation of the small business ecosystem, she also managed the Fort Worth Business Plan Competition for ten years, which focused on business planning, business pitches and profitable business operations. In her current role as a Business Equity Project Coordinator with the City of Fort Worth’s Diversity and Inclusion Department, she helps ensure equitable opportunities for all Business Equity (MWBE) firms.
